Sealing ring is a common sealing material in daily life. Wherever there are pumps, pipes, and valves, it will definitely be present. In the industrial field, sealing rings can play a role in preventing lubricating oil leakage and foreign object invasion, which is particularly crucial for improving the sealing of products. Therefore, choosing a suitable sealing ring is important!

However, sealing rings can undergo changes at a certain temperature, pressure, and in different liquid or gas media. Different materials have different physical and chemical properties. If the sealing ring is used in rotating situations, the temperature rise caused by frictional heat should also be considered.

Why do different materials affect the performance and service life of sealing rings? Let's analyze from the following aspects.

1. Movement speed.

The adaptability of different materials to mechanical motion speed varies. For static sealing, there is no relative movement between the sealing ring and the sealed part, so the requirements for material wear resistance and hardness are not high. However, for dynamic seals, they are limited by their sealing speed and pressure, and some ordinary materials cannot adapt to high-speed mechanical operation.

2. Pressure.

The material of the sealing ring is also very sensitive to the working pressure. The pressure that the sealing ring can withstand varies greatly depending on the material used. If the medium is raw oil, the working pressure it bears will be smaller. If it is a mixture of water, oil, or other liquids, the working pressure they bear exceeds the range of the material, which not only leads to leakage but also reduces the service life of the sealing ring.

3. Media compatibility.

The compatibility between the two plays a crucial role in the selection of sealing ring materials. Some materials may come into direct contact with the medium. If there is no good compatibility between them, it will not only damage the sealing ring but also contaminate the sealing medium. Therefore, the material of the sealing ring cannot be corroded off, nor can it undergo chemical changes with the medium.

4. Temperature.

Temperature also has a significant impact on the material of the sealing ring. If the temperature is too high or too low, it is not acceptable. If it is too high, it will reduce the tensile strength and hardness of the sealing ring; If the temperature is too low, it will make the sealing ring brittle and prone to cracking. Each sealing ring material has its own suitable temperature range, and it is important to pay attention to material selection in design.

5. Hardness.

The material hardness is the most important indicator for evaluating sealing performance, which determines the amount of compression and the extrusion gap of the groove. To prevent plastic deformation of the sealing ring under pressure. The material has a high hardness and is too hard. During the sealing process, cracks may appear due to environmental and force effects.

6. Sealing form

The sealing ring is an automatic bidirectional action, and its pre compression and initial sealing performance will increase with the increase of system pressure. Generally, seals are installed in grooves. In order to ensure the sealing effect, a pre tightening amount should be reserved. However, it should be noted that the pre tightening amount varies depending on the usage environment. According to the type of load, it can be divided into static sealing and dynamic sealing; According to the sealing purpose, it can be divided into perforated, axial, and rotating shafts. There are two types of installation methods: radial and axial.
